Hoping to Hit the High Notes
"I think that, so many times when we hear the National Anthem performed, it is marred by all the different kinds of R&B and pop things that we hear on the radio that sometimes we lose the true meaning of the song," Fox added. "And I like to interpret it the way that I feel like it was meant to be."
Singing the anthem is not only a show of pride, but also a thrill for the performer and audience.
"It's a rush to be in front of millions of people," admitted Nicole Brand, another contestant. "Well, not millions, but a whole bunch of people, representing Mizzou."
Brand and the other 32 contestants will learn within a week if they will sing the anthem at Mizzou sporting events.
