UNION (AP) - Two dozen horses saved from a slaughterhouse are looking for new homes. A total of 42 horses were in a trailer that crashed along Interstate-44 in Franklin County in September. They were slated to be killed at a slaughterhouse, but the Humane Society stepped in and helped to save the animals that didn't die in the crash. The horses have been on the mend at the Longmeadow Rescue Ranch in Union. The Humane Society held an open house Saturday for people interested in adopting the horses. Workers say they need people looking for a companion animal who have time to work with the horses.
