Husband Convicted in Lincoln County Woman's Death
TROY (AP) - The husband of a 42-year-old woman found stabbed to death in her Lincoln County home two days after Christmas 2011 has been found guilty of her murder.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that a northeast Missouri jury found Russell Scott Faria guilty of first-degree murder and armed criminal action after deliberating about four hours on Thursday. He was charged in Elizabeth "Betsy" Faria's death the day after his wife's funeral.
He told emergency dispatchers that Betsy Faria, who had liver cancer, committed suicide. An autopsy showed she was stabbed more than 50 times.
The couple was married for about 12 years. Court documents show that Scott Faria was the primary beneficiary of a life insurance policy worth between $300,000 and $400,000.
