COLUMBIA - Beginning Sunday at 5 p.m., Business Loop 70 and West Boulevard will close for 45 days.

Comfort Suites Columbia is located just off ramps at Interstate 70 Business Loop and West Boulevard. Melissa MacGowan, assistant general manager of Comfort Suites in Columbia, said the construction will complicate business.

She said one of the most frequent calls the hotel gets is for location. She said she expects guests will not be happy with having to change their route to the hotel.

"If people can't take the exit, they're probably not going to see us as the most convenient place to stop. Since there are hotels at all of the other exits I can see us losing the right-off-the-highway business," MacGowan said.

Despite the drawbacks to business, MacGowan said the updates were needed.

"The way that it was did tend to be a little dangerous and people did express concern about having to cross over the traffic. All in all, I think it's going to be a great improvement. It's just a little inconvenient getting there," MacGown said.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), the work includes replacing the I-70 bridge over the business loop and building a dual-line roundabout on the south side of Business Loop 70.

During the 45-day closure I-70 traffic will be detoured onto the Business Loop ramps, according to MoDOT.
