Ice Skating Closed At Stephens Lake Park
COLUMBIA - Columbia Parks and Recreation has closed Stephens Lake Park for ice skating due to warm temperatures and unpredictable conditions according to a press release from the city. Constant warm temperatures have caused the ice to thaw. Parks and Rec also closed ice skating at Cosmo-Bethel Park on Tuesday.
There must be a minimum of four inches of solid ice before any announcement is made about allowing skating and ice fishing. The ice is checked by drilling holes in several areas starting at the shore line and continuing toward the middle of the lake. Ice is not checked on evenings, weekends or holidays.
