For the first time in about six years mid missouri had a cold enough winter for skating and ice fishing at stephen's park lake and cosmo bethel lake . But warmer temperatures mean the ice is now too thin.Komu's erin shryock joins us live from stephen's lake.Erin... Jim and angie to your kids the ice may look thick enough to walk on, but when you try to shove something through it, it won't hold at all.Maintenance employees tested the ice this morning at stephen's lake and cosmo bethel lake with a drill and decided ice skating season is over.Columbia parks and recreation wants everyone to know that even though there may still be several inches of ice on local ponds, it's no longer safe enough to venture out on.So this means if you have kids and are close to a lake or a pond, make sure they know they are no longer safe. And it may be a couple months away but the beach at stephen's lake will be open for swimming on may first.Something to look forward to.Reporting live from columbia, erin shryock, komu news.
