Illinois Man Shot, Killed After Missouri Chase
EUREKA, Mo. (AP) -- Authorities say an Illinois man who led police on a chase in Missouri was shot and killed by officers after he suddenly accelerated his car and pointed a gun at the law enforcers.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol says 49-year-old Jose Garcia of Des Plaines near Chicago died at a hospital shortly after the shooting Friday near Eureka.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Garcia allegedly fled from Illinois State Police after multiple traffic violations before a Missouri state trooper spotted him on Interstate 44 southwest of St. Louis, starting a chase. Garcia later exited the freeway and drove through subdivisions before being shot and killed.
The chase included Missouri state, St. Louis County, Eureka and Franklin County authorities.
