Incoming students get a sneak peek of Eliot Battle Elementary
COLUMBIA -The new Eliot Battle Elementary School students got their first look at the school before the fall semester. Battle Elementary will consist of students from Two Mile Prairie Elementary School and Alpha Hart Lewis Elementary.
The two field trip days were offered to the enrolled students at Battle who were also in summer school. This was the last field trip for the summer school students. The first day was offered to kindergarten through third grade students. The second day consisted of the fourth and fifth graders.
The students had the opportunity to take a building tour with their teachers. They also participated in school activities like building Legos to make motion stop movies with iPads, but the iPads weren't available for the day. The kids also did art to get to know their new art teacher, Mary Franco.
"I hope to make lots of connections with the kids this year," Franco said.
First grade teacher Cara Taylor-Steele said, "We have a great staff put together. We have great kids or at least the ones we've met so far. I'm sure that there will be a lot of great families."
The students told us they were mostly scared about the size of the school building itself. Eight teaching staff members helped out for the visit with the incoming students to get to know each other and the students. The students will start their first day at Eliot Battle Elementary on August 18.
