Inmate from Boone County jail dies at hospital
COLUMBIA - A Columbia man died Saturday after a medical emergency that started at the Boone County Jail.
Robert Erik Bishop, 52, died after a medical emergency. He was a detainee arrested for trespassing and stealing.
Jail officials attempted to revive Bishop until emergency medical services arrived. Bishop was pronounced dead at University Hospital.
He was believed to be homeless, as his address was listed as the streets of Columbia. He refused to provide next-of-kin information when booked.
No foul play is suspected in Bishop's death and it was believed to be caused by a medical condition.The cause of death has yet to be determined as Boone County Medical Examiner awaits toxicology reports. It is an ongoing investigation.
