Inter-Office Pools of a Different Kind
City employees suspended for betting on number of homicides for the year. Several public works employees in the kansas city suburb of leawood have been suspended for betting on the kind of stats that their superiors and much of the public don't find very entertaining. it's called a dead pool. Between eight and ten city workers were suspended this week for running a "Dead Pool" where they placed bets on how many murders Kansas City would have in 2005. Police say another worker who knew of the pool at city hall went to Authorities. Every worker who placed bets was given a one week suspension, along with their supervisor. The person who "held the pot" for the pool was given two weeks. The workers say they got the idea from a radio station's morning show that discussed similar pools in other cities. So far, there have been 109 homicides in kansas city.
