Interfaith Gathering Urges End to Hostility
COLUMBIA - Local faith communities and peace groups hosted a news conference Friday to announce an interfaith gathering for peace on Sunday, the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
The groups said the began efforts to end hostilities immediately after September 11, 2001. Rock Bridge Christian Church, Mid-Missouri Peaceworks, and Mid-MO Fellowship of Reconciliation all participated at that time.
"What we can do is move forward; and by moving forward, we can work to end the wars now, we can work to redirect these resources that are being squandered on war and militarism, to be invested in people and meeting human needs," said the director of Mid-Missouri Peaceworks, Mark Haim.
The groups said all are welcome to attend the Islamic Center of Central Missouri for more reflections given by leaders of faith communities. Speakers will begin Sunday at approximately 1:30 in the afternoon.
