Isle of Capri Hotel to Open in June
Construction started more than a year ago on the riverfront. The hotel is expected to open during the first week of June. But, the casino is not the only one excited about the grand opening.
Ed Scrivner has owned a family shoe store in downtown Boonville for four decades.
"We've gone from being downtown communites to strip malls to great big shopping centers," he recalled. "The world has changed in 40 years."
Scrivner is gambling on the new attraction to bring big casino crowds to the quiet, downtown shopping area.
"It could be people staying overnight, so therefore will have extra hours where they're not on the boat," Scrivner explained. "So, hopefully, they will come out and wander around and, hopefully, we can pull a few of those in."
The seven-story hotel has 140 rooms. Behind it, there's a convention center that seats 650, something that might bring even more people to Boonville.
The Isle of Capri wants to help other local businesses hit the jackpot. Hotel guests will get discount coupons to a Boonville health club, golf course and downtown stores.
Scrivner hopes the incentives are lucky for him and his business. The Isle of Capri casino brings 6,000 visitors to town each week.
