Jeff City Council Approves Development
The City Council approved a new housing and shopping development on Monday night. Traffic, and lots of it, worries people who live near the proposed development.
"Nobody wants to live in a residential area where the streets become through traffic for significant commercial," said William Marshall.
But, the city is addressing the traffic issue by building a median, along with a possible three-way stop.
"Safety is my main concern, as I'm sure it is the city (sic) of engineering, and I'm sure there are going to do studies," explained project consultant Harold Krieger Jr. "But, the association and the state have worked together. And, if it doesn't work, we will come back to the city and ask for changes."
Most residents say they're happy with the input they've had about the project.
"There's been a lot of time and effort on all parties involved to just make sure the developers are good neighbors and we aren't impacted any more adversely than we may perceive," Marshall said.
The association says it will monitor the situation and look for ways to improve it. The new neighborhood will have single-family homes. The shopping center will have a Kohl's, other shops and perhaps a grocery store.
