Jeff Mizanskey to be released from prison on marijuana charges
COLUMBIA - A Missouri man sentenced to life in prison for marijuana offenses will be soon be released from prison.
Jeff Mizanskey served more than 21 years in prison and is believed to be the only prisoner in Missouri to serve life without parole for marijuana offenses.
Mizanskey's case was heard by the Missouri Board of Probation and Parole on August 6, 2015 where he was told 4 days later his application for parole would be granted.
The case began receiving attention in May of this year after Gov. Jay Nixon granted Mizanskey a commutation of his sentence.
Mizanskey's release from prison was supported by 126 members of the Missouri General Assembly and multiple Missouri organizations.
Mizanskey intends to return to Sedalia where he says he will be active in marijuana law reform.
