Jefferson City Police Arrest Sixth Suspect in Shooting
JEFFERSON CITY - Police arrested a sixth suspect Tuesday for a shooting that occured on the 400 block of East Dunklin Street Friday.
Kaleb Gilpin, 17, is charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action.
Jefferson City Police arrested five other suspects Monday after a 33-year-old man was shot inside a home.
In addition to Gilpin, police arrested Javier Morris, Dennis Summers, Onterion Sullivan, and Keiondrey Morris, all from Jefferson City. Police also arrested a 16-year-old male juvenile.
The suspects also face charges of first degree assault and armed criminal action.
The neighborhood along Dunklin Street was quiet Tuesday. One man worked under the hood of his station wagon as other residents walked through the neighborhood. That was not the case Friday night.
"We were out back playing with the kids and we heard three gun shots go off," Aaron Russell said.
Neighbors said they are happy police arrested the suspects.
"That makes me feel a lot more safe that they're off the street now, but you never know what's going to happen," Russell said.
Captain Doug Shoemaker said the community is fortunate the case wasn't worse than it was.
"We're lucky we're not investigating a homicide as opposed to a shooting," Shoemaker said.
"I just hope it stays safe for awhile. We can all pray," Russell said.
Shoemaker said investigators have not recovered any firearms yet.
