Jefferson City Police: Free Rides Offered for Party-goers to Ensure Safe and Responsible Driving
JEFFERSON CITY - In response to the inclement weather on the New Year's Eve, the Jefferson City Police Department is reminding all participants of the annual festivities to be responsible on the roads and designate a driver.
The department says participants may choose free taxi rides offered by the Sober Driver Program as an alternative to driving.
The free rides are provided to individuals who are too impaired to legally or safely drive an automobile, or to passengers who choose not to ride with an impaired driver.
Both businesses that sell alcohol and private parties that have acquired Sober Driver tickets in advance can use the program.
Patrons or a business representative should call 636-7102 for a free ride home. Invidiuals hosting private parties can call Fechtel Beverage at 636-5161 or the city's police department at 634-6397 to obtain tickets for their guests.
The taxis will only take riders directly to their home or a hotel. They won't stop at another party or establishment selling alcohol.
All Sober Driver tickets are valued at 10 dollars and the rider will be responsible for any costs exceeding that amount.
The Sober Driver Program is jointly provided by the police department and Fechtel Beverage. Last year, it gave more than 2,000 rides to imparied individuals.
