Jesus symbol placed on Missouri vets memorial
COLUMBIA (AP) - A previously covered Christian symbol on a Missouri war memorial has been topped by an unofficial replacement.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reported an ichthus, or so-called "Jesus Fish," was placed on the Boone County statute sometime before Memorial Day. The symbol was carved in the memorial before it was originally installed in 1992.
County commissioners last year voted to cover it after a Washington, D.C.-based group threatened to take legal action against governments that allow religious icons on taxpayer-owned property.
Commissioners say they plan on meeting in the next few weeks to reconsider their earlier decision.
