Jewish Family Services Opens New KC Area Pantry
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) - The Kansas City area has a new food pantry for families in need. Jewish Family Services of Greater Kansas City launched the community's newest food pantry Sunday. The JFS pantry is located on the campus of the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park.
The Kansas City Star reports that JFS serves people in both Johnson and Jackson counties, and receives more than 200 calls per month from families who need assistance.
Don Goldman, executive director of the organization, said during a ceremony Sunday to open the new pantry that the need in affluent Johnson County has been growing, particularly in the last five years. He says the organization also expects to have a satellite pantry at the JFS offices in Jackson County by the end of the year.
