Judge Allows Legislator in Voter ID Court Battle
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - A judge allows the legislator who handled the new voter I-D law to step into the court battle. Cole County Circuit Judge Richard Callahan today allowed Republican Senator Delbert Scott of Lowry City to intervene in defending the law. Various city officials and potential voters are challenging its constitutionality. But the judge again denied a request by the St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners to get involved. Another hearing in the case is set for Friday. The law requires people to show a photo ID issued by Missouri or the federal government to vote starting in November. Scott's attorney says there's evidence the court needs to hear, including the experience of other states with a photo ID requirement.
