Kansas City Newspaper Reports Gov. Nixon Intended Target of Stabbing
JEFFERSON CITY - 22-year-old Casey Brezik stabbed Dean Albert Dimmit in the neck Tuesday at Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City. The stabbing occurred only a few minutes before the governor was to speak at a scheduled press conference.
Now, a Kansas City newspaper reports Brezik actually planned to stab Nixon. The Kansas City Star report said sources close to the investigation thought Brezik had actually stabbed the governor when he carried out his plot. KOMU contacted the Kansas City Police Department's Homicide and Dispatch Division early Thursday morning.
The homicide department representative said the department had not heard of this latest motive. Dispatch refused to comment. Brezik made his first court appearance Wednesday. Prosecutors will charge Brezik with first degree assualt and armed criminal action. Brezik remains without bond.
