Kansas City police shoot suspect, shots then fired at police
KANSAS CITY (AP) — Kansas City police shot an armed man early Sunday and then scrambled to cover after someone in the crowd fired shots toward them.
Spokeswoman Sgt. Kari Thompson said officers were investigating a large crowd that had gathered in southeast Kansas City when they confronted and shot a person with a weapon.
Thompson said as police administered first aid to that man, a second person approached officers in an aggressive manner and refused to move, prompting officers to use a stun gun on that person.
Someone in the crowd fired several shots toward the officers, who moved the injured man and themselves to safety. After the scene was secure, the man who was shot was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
No one else was injured. Further details weren't released.
