Katrina Aid Continues in Mid-Missouri
United Methodist Church has raised $86,000 since the relief effort started. Members also sent thousands of care packages with everything from toothbrushes to cleaning supplies.
Columbia's Voluntary Action Center has focused its efforts on evacuees who have made new homes here.
"We helped some of them with Youth Enrichment Fund, which is scholarshipping kids to summer camps, band camps, to play sports, whatever it is that we can do to make it a more positive experience for everybody," said VAC Director Cindy Mustard.
Mustard said at least 50 Gulf Coast families are now part of the Columbia community by getting involved in churches and attending schools.
