DES MOINES, IA - It was a banner day for the Tigers, as they close out day one of the Drake Relays with four season bests, two PRs, and a new School Record in the javelin at the hands of sophomore Katrine Haarklau. Haarklau has seen quite a bit of success over the past few weeks after posting a final score of 5,374 at the Ole Miss Invitational a couple weeks ago, which still has her at No. 16 in the nation according to the U.S. Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS).

Haarklau emerged in the competition after fouling out her first two attempts, throwing down a third throw of 49.56m (152-9) to take down the previous record of 49.34m (161-10), set in 1998 by Tracey Holloman. She emerged from the competition with a 3rd place finish and a spot in the top fifteen on the national rankings and No. 3 in the SEC.

"I am very happy, but I felt like I could throw further. And I did throw further, it was just out of the sector. Fifty-meters has been a goal for me for so many years now, and I am just ready to hit that mark. So there's definitely more to go, but I am definitely happy to throw a PR today. It's just great to be moving forward again," Haarklau said. "I feel like, if I really hit it, it'll go far. It'll go over 50 meters. Right now I just need to stay healthy, then I'll be ready for the SEC Championships and hopefully do a great heptathlon there."

Haarklau entered the javelin with an already successful day under her belt, after earning a new season best mark of 4.05m (13-3.5) in the pole vault for 4th place. She exited the competition with good looks at the final bar, which rested at 4.20m (13-9.25), her school record height made this time last year at the ESU Mid-Week Open.

Joining Haarklau on the PR list is javelin teammate Bethany Pfeiffer, who's top mark of 46.58m (152-10) earned her a 2'10" PR and sixth-place finish. This mark was also enough to move her up on the Missouri All-Time Top Ten list, where she now sits at No. 6.

Another key performance came from senior Malcolm Pennix, who's back in form after taking time after the NCAA Indoor Championships. He hit 7.76m (25-5.50) on his third attempt, two inches off his PR, to end the competition in 3rd place. This mark places him within the top 15 on the national rankings.

Sophomore Kearsten Peoples also put down a couple of season bests, coming off a full weekend at the ESU Mid-Week Open on Wednesday and the Kip Janvrin Open on Thursday. She started the day with a mark of 17.33m (56-10.25) to place 3rd in the shot put, then went on to take another 3rd finish in the discus, tossing 53.05m (174-00). Both these marks advance Peoples further in the national rankings, landing her within the top five for the shot put.

Kicking off the weekend for the Tigers, though, was freshman Bryant Blahnik, who raced his first career 10k Thursday night. Blahnik came out of the competition 8th overall with a Missouri Top Ten All-Time mark of 30:09.15.

Events continue Saturday with the women's shuttle hurdle relay at 8:20 a.m. Also hitting the track are the men's 4x100m relay and freshman Markesh Woodson in the finals of the 100m dash. The relay, featuring Woodson, senior Malcolm Pennix, sophomore Tre Chambers, and freshman Tony Carodine qualified for the finals after a 3rd place finish in their heat, cruising to a 41.18. Woodson also cruised to a spot in the finals, battling an intense headwind to win his heat and enter the final day of competition ranked fourth in the event.

Other Mizzou events include the men's and women's hammer throw, men's discus, sprint medley, steeplechase, 800m run, and 1500m run.
