Kinder Faces DWI Charges
Late Friday night, just outside Jefferson city, Missouri State Highway Patrol pulled judge Byron Kinder over for a traffic violation. The highway patrol officer also suspected the judge had been drinking.
The highway patrol officer cited Kinder for driving while intoxicated.
The highway patrol won't say exactly what the judge did, but the trooper brought judge Kinder to a juvenile justice center, not the county jail, for a breathalyzer test.
"Well the reason he was taken there is because an individual in his profession of being a judge being taken to a jail, it's basically for his safety," Highway Patrol Sgt. Paul Reinsch said. "He may have been involved in cases involving some of the inmates there or something of that nature."
The highway patrol is sending a report to the Cole County prosecutor.
Both the Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson and Cole County Presiding Judge Patricia Joyce were unavailable for comment.
