Kitchen fire damages Jefferson City apartment
JEFFERSON CITY — An out-of-control kitchen fire in Jefferson City damaged an apartment Monday evening.
The Jefferson City Fire Department said they responded to the fire on Southridge Drive, which is just north of U.S. 51 and east of MO-179.
When crews got to the scene they saw smoke coming from the front door of an apartment in the basement level of the building, according to a news release from the Jefferson City Fire Department.
Firefighters said the fire began in the kitchen. Crews had to remove smoke from three other apartments and one apartment had minor water damage.
The Red Cross is helping residents with temporary housing. It's not clear how many people were displaced as a result of the blaze.
Jefferson City Police Department and Cole County EMS also responded to the scene.
