Labor Day is still a regular workday for many
COLUMBIA - Labor Day is often seen as a day to relax, but many don't get this opportunity.
A number of people will still have to work on Monday.
"There are still fires, even on holidays," Kyle Fansler, Batallion Chief of the Columbia Fire Department, said.
Emergency workers such as doctors, firefighters, and police officers are on call for days the general public has off.
Fansler said bigger holidays are often more difficult to have to miss, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.
"Families come into the station and have lunch or supper with crews that are on duty those days," Fansler said. "So it is kind of hard but we just have to plan around the holidays accordingly."
