Lady Cougars Dominate Spartans
COLUMBIA -- The Columbia College Lady Cougars posted their 13th victory of the season Saturday, defeating the Spartans from Missouri Baptist University by a final score of 66-46. Columbia's commanding performance moves them to 13-7 on the season and 3-1 in American Midwest Conference (AMC) play. The loss drops Missouri Baptist to 6-12 overall and 0-4 versus conference foes.
The Lady Cougars held the host squad scoreless for the first couple minutes and went on to take a 35-21 advantage at the break. Columbia's 28-15 first half rebounding lead expanded in the second half as the Lady Cougars outrebounded the Spartans by 17 in the contest. Missouri Baptist connected on just 15 field goals in the contest, leaving Columbia with the 20-point victory.
Heather English led four Lady Cougars in double figures. The sophomore had 17 points, with 15 of those coming in the first half of play. Airelle Eldridge had 13 points while Kirsti Wilkerson and Julie Teeple finished with 10 apiece. Ashley Fisher and Wilkerson grabbed eight rebounds each.
Columbia continues conference play next Thursday, January 26th when they make the trek down to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to face off against Williams Baptist College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 P.M.
