MARSHALL, MO -- The Missouri Valley College Softball team took on Baker University in a conference doubleheader Sunday. The double header takes place after the first meeting March 23rd was postponed due to inclement weather. The Lady Vikings were close in both contests making a comeback in game one, and leading game two, before falling in both 4-3 and 5-3.

In game one the Lady Vikings found themselves trailing 2-0 after one inning of play. Sophomore First Baseman Megan Fansher got MVC started with a single to lead off the second inning. Junior Centerfielder Allison Kuchan tripled on her at bat to score Fansher. Kuchan scored on a misplayed grounder hit by Junior Hannah Garcynski for the Lady Vikings second score of the inning. MVC gave Baker a run in the bottom of the third, but scored a run of their own at the top of the seventh inning after Senior Pitcher Kim Lopez doubled to center field. Senior Left Fielder Mallory White singled to score Lopez pinch runner Sophomore Cassandra Smith to tie the game 3-3. Baker scored in the bottom of the seventh to take the 4-3 win over the Lady Vikings. Lopez pitched a complete game striking out four and only walking one.

In game two the two teams stayed 0-0 through three complete innings. The Lady Vikings struck first on a two out rally that started on Junior Short Stop Priscilla Garcia single to right-center. Kuchan was hit by a pitch to advance P. Garcia to second. Garcyznski hit a three run homerun over the left field fence to make the score 3-0. Baker University went on to score four runs in the inning to take a 4-3 lead after four complete. Baker scored in the bottom of the fifth inning for the only other score of the game, winning 5-3.

The Lady Vikings move to 10-12 overall and 4-6 in HAAC play. Baker University improves to 18-10 overall and 10-4 in conference. MVC will be in action again Wednesday when they travel to Springfield, Mo. to take on Evangel University.
