Lake Safer This Memorial Day Weekend
"It's a little bit crowded, but it was still good," Scharf said. "It's fun to come down and get away."
During the 2005 Memorial Day weekend, 18 boating accidents caused 24 injuries, including one fatality.
Water Patrol Capt. Matt Walz said congestion continues to be a problem on the Lake of the Ozarks, especially on holiday weekends.
"Boaters should pay attention to their surroundings," he said, "and make sure they are aware of what other boat operators are doing."
Walz said boaters apparently were more aware this Memorial Day Weekend, with only 12 accidents and three minor injuries reported by Sunday. He also said most boating accidents occur on Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day.
