Columbia, Mo. - Columbia College head golf coach John Utley officially announced today the signing of his first women's golfer in Laken Frese. Frese joins the golf team as they begin competition in the fall of 2012.

"Laken's a fantastic athlete an incredible work ethic with tremendous upside and willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed," said Laken's golf instructor Mark Christensen.

A Quincy, Ill. native, Laken becomes the second signee from Quincy High School after Colin Wilson became the first member of the men's golf team in late November. Frese was a state qualifier in 2011, most valuable player and was a first team all-conference recipient as a junior and senior. She is also an award winning softball player, named all-area for three seasons and Quincy High School MVP in 2011.

"I've been impressed with her athleticism and work ethics," stated Utley. "She's relatively new to competitive golf but came a long way in a short time with her best golf ahead of her. Her heart and passion for success is infectious and she will be a great asset to our new program."
