JEFFERSON CITY - A common sight in the Ozarks, the three-toed box turtle, could soon become Missouri's official reptile. Rep. Jim Viebrock of Republic will shepherd the proposal through the Legislature, thanks to a science class in his district. Students will testify at the Capitol about the importance of having a state reptile. Missouri already has a state amphibian, the American Bullfrog, plus 19 other official state symbols, including a tree and tree nut, fish and aquatic animal, and song, musical instrument and folk dance.
