Levee breaches in northwest Missouri raise concerns
OREGON, Mo. (AP) - Two recent levee breaches in northwest Missouri have raised concerns about flooding in the region.
The St. Joseph News Press reports (http://bit.ly/1KX3BH8 ) that a breach in the Squaw Creek levee in central Holt County has flooded acres of farmland and another breach late last week along Squaw Creek closed sections of U.S. Highway 59 and Interstate 29.
Holt County Sheriff Scott Wedlock says no homes are threatened, but additional rain could create more problems.
He says the Missouri State Highway Patrol has helped evaluate the breaches.
In 2010 and 2011, floods hit Holt County homes, infrastructure and campgrounds.
