Lindenwood University students detained for filming video
ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police are investigating an encounter between two student journalists from Lindenwood University and a group of 15 patrol officers and detectives whom the two women say detained them for 90 minutes without explanation.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Lindenwood officials complained to police officials about the Oct. 27 incident and want an apology.
Lindenwood president James Evans says the students mistakenly went to a north St. Louis patrol station rather than the downtown police headquarters. They wanted to interview Chief Sam Dotson about thefts of band equipment from vans outside St. Louis concert venues.
The students say an officer gave them permission to film video of parked police vehicles from a nearby sidewalk, but they were then surrounded for questioning and had their car and belongings searched.
