Little League Fans Rally in Columbia Mall
Fans in the stands cheered as their teams filled Howard J. Lamade Stadium. Columbia plays at 7 p.m. against Lake Charles, La. Columbia also will play at least two more games, one each on Saturday and Monday.
"It's just awesome seeing all the different teams representing all the different regions and around the world," said parent Lori Osborne. "It's just awesome. It's just very inspiring."
Another parent, LeeAnn Phillips, added, "I am just so happy for all of them. It's just a magical moment for all of them. They all worked really hard to get here and we're just so proud of them and we're just happy for them."
Fans in Columbia turned out in the Columbia Mall to support their team and to watch big screen TV monitors set up in the middle of the Cafe Court.
KOMU's Ryan Luby reported live from the food court and spoke to Mall Marketing Manager Sonja Derboven.
"We're really excited about tonight," she said. "We will be airing the Little League baseball game not only tonight but on Saturday and on Monday night as well. We have some restaurants in our Cafe Court that are having some dinner discounts for families to come on out. We'll also be giving away some great prizes throughout the game, including MU football tickets, some mall gift cards, and some baseball hats."
