Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen Relocates
COLUMBIA - The Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen served meals at its new location at the Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church Sunday. The move allows the kitchen to serve the community easier. The church is taking on the tenant as part of its new mission to be a ministry to the poor.
The old location on Seventh and Park allowed seating for 18 people, but typically served 60 through to-go meals or people seated outside. This new location seats all and also provides more space for children by providing high chairs. Families are now able to sit together.
Sunday was the trial opening of the new kitchen. Pastor Meg Hegemann said volunteers served more than 60 people and heard positive feedback. The official grand opening will be on Thursday, March 8.
