Local bicycling group rides in loop around Columbia
COLUMBIA — A group of more than 20 bicyclists rode around Columbia as a part of the Loop the City Ride Sunday morning.
The planned route included "a mix of soft surface trails, bike lanes and streets with low to medium traffic volume."
"Traffic is a concern," group leader Benedict Nagy said. "We designed the route to take as many low-traffic roads as possible."
Nagy hopes there will be a trail system that goes around the city built in the future.
The 24.3 mile bicycling event caps off the city's Bike, Walk and Wheel Week.
Columbia Parks and Recreation described the promotion on its Facebook event as "a week-long celebration of the many benefits of healthy, active transportation - like walking, biking and wheeling yourself around Columbia."
This is the third year the ride has been held.
