JEFFERSON CITY-  The Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce awarded Wilson's Fitness Center as the small business of the year. The ceremony was a part of the city's Business Showcase, an expo which markets local companies in and around Jefferson City. It's the city's 21st year having both the expo and award ceremony.

Employees of Wilson's say they are flattered to be chosen this year. "We are so blessed and very happy to be a part of the community, and a part of making the community a better place to live," said Tracie Matthews, a personal trainer.

City officials say they are very happy with not only the awards ceremony attendance, but also the amount of people at the the expo. "We thought that we might be down again with the economy the way it is. But, the booths are up and I think people's attitudes are positive. So, maybe psychologically with the economy, we turned the corner" said Randy Allen, Jefferson City's Chamber of Commerce President.

This year holds a record for the number of local businesses represented. According to the chamber, there were over 170 exhibits and more than 200 businesses represented. In fact, this was also the first year that businesses were placed on a waiting list to even be represented at the small business expo.

Officials say that the local expo helps businesses attract attention and obtain new clients. Matthews says she thinks the additional attention on Wilson's Fitness will help get people to be more active and get in shape.
