CENTRALIA - Larry Douglas, one of the 300 people who participated in the Anchor Fest's annual car show, wanted to use his pride and joy to honor the men and women who have served our country.

"I've been wanting to do this for a long time because I knew a lot of people who served in Vietnam and didn't come back," Douglas said.

Douglas said he started racing his Stingray Chevrolet Corvette about 16 years ago.

"I love that car and I wanted a way to use it to pay tribute for the people I admire" he said. "So many people didn't come back and I have friends who lost their legs and eyes in battle; this is to honor them."

The car drew crowds of people who came to honor a veteran in their life by signing their name and date of service on the car.

Centrailia's Anchor Fest drew in over three thousand people from all over mid-Missouri and even visitors from as far as Connecticut and Vermont.

Centralia Police Chief L.A. Dudgeon said the fest had a record number of entries this year. The awards ranged from "Best Chevrolet" to ""Best Interior."
