Local Companies Raise Money For Autism Awareness
COLUMBIA - Marathon Building Environments and Fresh Ideas Food Service Management raised $750 for the Thompson Center for Autism and presented it to the organization on Monday for the National Autism Awareness Day.
The companies raised the money by selling blue cake pops made by Fresh Ideas. The blue color matches the "Light It Up Blue" national campaign, which is part of the awareness day. One of Fresh Ideas' bakers said the company worked on the project throughout the weekend and was thrilled to be a part of the fundraiser with Marathon Building Environments.
The Thompson Center is a national leader in autism research and awareness and has been in operation since 2005. One in 72 children in Missouri is affected by autism, according to the Thompson Center.
