Local Music Groups Reach Goal, Buy Piano for Boys & Girls Town
COLUMBIA - Local music organizations announced Monday they have raised enough money to purchase a new Kawai Institutional Studio piano for Columbia's Boys and Girls Town. The organization plans to use the piano to provide children at the facility with music therapy, a chance to sing in choir and other musical experiences.
The groups involved in the fundraiser include the Missouri Federation of Music Club District II Teachers of the ShowMe Music Club, Mid-Missouri Music Teachers Association and The Music Suite. They started the fundraiser back in May during the National Music Week. They hoped to present the piano after that one week, but it took them longer than expected to raise the $60 per piano key.
The official dedication of the new piano will be during an open house on Sunday, Sept. 16 from 2 to 3 p.m.
