Louisiana officer shot and killed after responding to call
SUNSET, La. - A sheriff in southwest Louisiana said two people are dead, including a police officer responding to a domestic dispute.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz identified the victims as 51-year-old Officer Henry Nelson and 40-year-old Shameka Johnson. He said two other women also were stabbed: Johnson's sister, 34-year-old Shurlay Johnson, and Courtney Jolivette, the wife of the man who is accused in the attacks.
The sheriff said 34-year-old Shurlay Johnson is in critical condition and Courtney Jolivette Riley is in stable condition.
The convenience store then erupted in flames, but firefighters arrived at the scene and quickly extinguished the blaze.
The sheriff said officers threw in tear gas and then stormed the JR Food Mart when the man refused to come out.
Guidroz says Wiley has an extensive criminal record.
Riley's husband, 35-year-old Harrison Lee Riley Jr., is under arrest at a hospital. Guidroz said Riley is being held for observation after complaining of a hurt rib.
