Loved Ones Still Recovering from Mo. Teen's Death
JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) -- A year after a 14-year-old southwest Missouri girl was accidentally shot to death during a slumber party, her family and friends are honoring her with special T-shirts.
Megan Reppond of Joplin died last Dec. 27 in Neosho. One of her friends picked up a handgun and it discharged, hitting Megan in the head.
The Joplin Globe reports that Megan's friends made purple T-shirts, which Megan's favorite color. The shirts carry her picture and some of her favorite tweets. As of Tuesday, 52 people had ordered the shirts.
Samatha Mahurin, who was standing next to Megan when she was shot, says it's been a tough year. But she says her faith, as well as her friends and family, have helped her cope.
No charges were filed in the shooting.
