LU Women's Track No. 2 in Polls, Blue Tiger Men No. 8
JEFFERSON CITY — Lincoln's track & field teams continue to get national recognition, as the Blue Tiger women are the No. 2 team in the country while the LU men are No. 8 in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II national poll, released on Tuesday.
For the first time in the outdoor season, the Lincoln women are not the nation's top-ranked team, as the removal of preseason data allowed Grand Canyon to claim the No. 1 spot with 235.51 points. The Blue Tigers received 226.60 points to earn the No. 2 ranking.
The Lincoln men also dropped a spot thanks to the removal of preseason data, moving from No. 7 to No. 8 after receiving 115.47 points.
According to the USTFCCA website, the organization compiles its national team rankings by "mathematical formulae based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons. For the preseason ranking and early-season rankings, data will be taken from previous seasons as well as the current season. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national-team race."
