Man accused in drive-by death sentenced for gun violation
KANSAS CITY (AP) — A 26-year-old Kansas City man who is facing state charges for the death of a 3-year-old boy killed in a drive-by shooting has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm.
U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson said Sulif Wilkins was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in June to possessing a handgun.
Wilkins was identified during an investigation into the death of a boy was killed in his bed on May 31, 2015. Kansas City police officers went to an apartment complex to take Wilkins into custody on June 17, 2015, when they saw him pull a gun from his waistband and throw it into a car before running away.
Wilkins was charged in state court with murder and other charges related to the boy's death.
