Man accused of killing father with crossbow
HANNIBAL (AP) — A northeast Missouri man is charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action for allegedly killing his elderly father with a crossbow and hiding the body in a freezer.
Charges were filed Monday against 30-year-old Carl Goldberg in the death of his father, 84-year-old Carl Maxwell. Goldberg is jailed on $1 million bond and does not yet have an attorney.
Maxwell was killed sometime between December 2014 and February. A probable cause statement says Goldberg told police he used the crossbow to shoot Maxwell in the head and chest following an argument before hiding the body in the freezer. Police discovered the body Oct. 6 and Goldberg was arrested eight days later in Las Vegas.
He was originally charged with exploitation of the elderly before the charge was upgraded Monday.
