Man Bikes Across Country at 64 Years Old
JEFFERSON CITY - Imagine traveling nearly 4,000 miles across country on your bike. That is the case for one South Carolina man names Steve Quam. It's all to raise awareness for Parkinson's Disease.
Quam was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease more than two years ago. He's riding in support of the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's, which funds Parkinson's Disease research in using exercise to help still the disease.
Quam actually discovered exercising helped limit his own tremors. He started riding out of Washington State back in June and so far has traveled nearly 3,000 miles. His final destination is South Carolina.
Quam usually rides 30 to 60 miles a day. He takes medication to keep his tremors under control while on the road. Quam will ride through Mid-Missouri Thursday.
