Man changes plea, sentenced in Jefferson City stabbing death
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) — A Jefferson City man who fatally stabbed another man in February 2017 has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The Cole County Prosecutor's office says 53-year-old Michael Phillips on Friday withdrew his not guilty plea and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
The Jefferson City News-Tribune reports officers responding to an apartment complex in Jefferson City discovered 46-year-old Michael Taylor injured. Taylor later died at a Jefferson City hospital.
Detectives reported the victim and suspect were visiting at the complex when they got into an altercation. In court Friday, Phillips admitted he stabbed Taylor during the fight.
Jefferson City police say Phillips was covered in blood and standing next to Taylor when officers arrived.
