Man charged with hitting bicyclist, fleeing
SPRINGFIELD (AP) — A Springfield man has been charged with hitting a bicyclist while driving drunk and fleeing the scene of the injury crash.
Forty-year-old Jeffrey Maloney was arraigned Thursday in Greene County Circuit Court on charges of second-degree assault and leaving the scene. His attorney, Lawrence Catt, didn't immediately return a phone message from The Associated Press.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that police say Maloney struck a 44-year-old bicyclist June 10 with the truck he was driving. Court documents say witnesses blocked Maloney when he was trying to drive away and detained him until police arrived. The documents say Maloney had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.227 percent.
The bicyclist was severely injured and remains hospitalized.
