Man charged with possession, intent to distribute amid rash of K2 overdoses
COLUMBIA - A man has been charged in connection with a string of synthetic marijuana overdoses in Columbia earlier this week.
Prosecutors charged 25-year-old Kenneth Edwards with possession with the intent to distribute 35 grams or less of a synthetic controlled substance.
According to a probable cause statement, police found Edwards unresponsive near Sixth Street and Wilkes Boulevard, apparently under the influence of drugs.
Officers said they found cash and a substance they recognized as K2 in Edwards' pocket.
The probable cause statement also said Edwards was seen at a residence earlier in the day known for K2 distribution.
Police said Wednesday, emergency personnel responded to at least a dozen overdoses involving synthetic marijuana in Columbia.
According to Boone County Jail records, Edwards bail is set at $3,000. A court date is set for Nov. 13.
