Man Convicted in Joplin Slaying
Jurors in McDonald County yesterday found 30-year-old Brian McDaniel guilty of first-degree murder in the July 2001 shooting death of Kendace "Sissy" DeCarlo of Joplin. She was shot in front of her two young children. Both men were suspected members of a Bloods gang from Tulsa, Oklahoma. McDaniel drove the getaway car and co-defendant Donald Overton was the alleged shooter. They were suspected members of a Bloods gang from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Overton is scheduled to go to trial in March on a charge of first-degree murder. McDaniel's sentencing is February 21st. The crime carries an automatic sentence of life without parole. The case was moved from Jasper County to Newton County, but jurors were selected from McDonald County.
